Captain Britain is the champion of Otherworld, being selected as an honorable hero by Merlyn and Roma and magically empowered to serve in the Captain Britain Corps across the Multiverse. Empowered by the Amulet of Right, Brian Braddock was originally chosen to assume the role of Captain Britain, becoming a relevant part of the United Kingdom both as its national icon and as a member of Excalibur and MI13. Alternatively empowered by the Sword of Might, ordinary single mother Kelsey Leigh replaced Braddock as a vengeful Captain Britain who worked alongside the Avengers. With Braddock's return, Leigh rejected the mantle, being known as Lionheart. Braddock's twin, the mutant psychic Betsy Braddock has become the new Captain Britain as a consequence of the machinations of Apocalypse to influence Otherworld. Ever since, she has worked as Prime Captain Britain, while her brother has focused on his responsibilities as Captain Avalon.
