History
The device most-famously carried by Annihilus that kept him alive. It allows the holder to manipulate matter and energy and slows their aging process. It gives Annihilus control over cosmic energy (not to be confused with the Power Cosmic). Although cosmic energy has virtually limitless applications, Annihilus characteristically uses it to promote his own well-being, by slowing his cellular degeneration (insects are normally short-lived), warding off disease, and reversing the effects of heat, cold, and radiation. He also uses it to boost his own strength, to fly through space, and to fire energy blasts of up to 10 megatons.
Properties
The main property of the Cosmic Control Rod is to act as the ultimate symbol of Authority within the Negative Zone. Using it meant the wielder was the undisputed lord and master of said universe as all who dwelt within it were sworn to obey it's sovereignty.[1]
Cosmological Force Manipulation: The control rod's design allows it to harness, amplify and metabolize the cosmic energies of the negative zone. Vastly empowering its user both physically and ergodynamically. With the rod a user has an extended life cycle due to the cosmic rays it produces retarding cellular degeneration by eons at a time.
- Cosmic Energy Manipulation: Users can harness, absorb and control vast amounts of raw energy for a variety of stupendous effects. Such as increasing their own strength, speed, toughness and general physicality. Discharging and absorbing considerable force from any source to further bolster oneself and extending ones own lifespan by a great deal. Through it Annihilus was supposedly able to endow the Negative Zone's counterpart to the Power Cosmic; The Opposite Force onto a breed of hound loaned to few of his elite warriors called The Seekers. Through which could hunt down and assimilate the energies of a herald of Galactus, transferring their forces back to their master and the Annihilation Wave.
- Matter Manipulation: With the Control Rod in hand Annihilus could use its power to rearrange particle composition with relative ease. Using it to create hand cuffs out of nothing, penetrating one of Reed Richards' impenetrable stasis fields by changing the molecular lattices of it's construction.
- Warp Manipulation: Can manipulate extra-dimensional forces in order to teleport around the Negative zone with ease. Can also be used to create portals which can port sizable armies across interstellar distances and Even, when at full power, enable the user to tear open rifts between universes by sheer will.
- Symbol of Authority: Whosoever holds the control rod has total dominion of the Negative Zone, moreover the device extends a neuropsychic link with whomever holds it with its denizens giving him complete control over most of it's forces. In particular those of the slave minded Annihilation Wave, who only follow the wielder of the designated king of the Negative Zone.
- Power Augmentation: Anyone who has hold of it has their original power set vastly augmented beyond their original capacity, this effect works best with those who are natural receptacles of cosmic energy like Johnny Storm of the Fantastic Four.
