Notes
- Fortnite is a online video game and game platform developed by Epic Games which first released in 2017. It primarily revolves around the game Fortnite Battle Royale but also features additional modes, dubbed "experiences", such as Fortnite: Save the World, Lego Fortnite, Rocket Racing, Fortnite Festival, and Fortnite Ballistic. While not explicitly based on Marvel Comics, the two properties have crossed over multiple times, leading Marvel Comics characters and concepts to be heavily featured in the game. The first collaboration between to came in the form of the Infinity Gauntlet Limited Time Mashup, which added a new limited time game mode in promotion of Avengers: Infinity War. A similar event was later held in promotion of Avengers: Endgame. The game then went on to receive two Marvel-themed Battle Royal seasons: Chapter 2: Season 4, subtitled Nexus War, and Chapter 5: Season 4, subtitled Absolute Doom. Additionally Marvel characters played key roles in the Battle Royale seasons Chapter 2: Season 2, Chapter 3: Season 1, Chapter 3: Season 2, Chapter 5: Season 3. Later, a Tony Stark-themed island known as Stark Island was added to the Battle Royale variation Blitz Royale.
- Despite the Iron Man Mk 45 outfit being based on Avengers: Age of Ultron, the person inside of the suit is the Tony Stark of Earth-616, not Earth-199999. This is evidenced by the outfit's description, which references 616 Tony's actions during the Nexus War.
- The comics Fortnite X Marvel - Nexus War: Thor #1 and Fortnite X Marvel: Zero War were released to tie-in to Fortnite and serve to supplement the game's story. Fortnite X Marvel - Nexus War: Thor #1 serves as a prequel to Chapter 2: Season 4 while Fortnite X Marvel: Zero War takes place during Chapter 3: Season 2.
- In addition to Earth-1218 (our real world), Fortnite also exists as the video game on Earth-199999.[1][2][3] However, the current season of Fortnite on Earth-199999 is seemingly greatly behind that of our universe. This is evidenced by the fact that Korg is shown playing Season 7 in late 2023 while Chapter 4: Season 4 was occurring at that time in our reality.[2]
- With the release of the Update v27.10, all of experiences available in Fortnite received their own age and content ratings. This led to certain cosmetics being age restricted, meaning that they couldn't be used in experiences given an ESRB rating of E or E10+ (or equivalent ratings outside of North America). This restriction is currently applied to the skins for Venom, Carnage, Eddie Brock, Agony, and She-Venom as well as their related cosmetics. This restriction also once applied to the skins for Black Widow, Black Widow Outfit, Cable, Deadpool, Deadpool (Pen & Ink), Doctor Doom, and Domino but this has since changed.
- Every playable Marvel character in Fortnite has a LEGO style except for Deadpool, Blade, Venom, Carnage, Eddie Brock, MJ, Deadpool (Pen & Ink), Agony, and She-Venom. While Venom, Carnage, Eddie Brock, Agony, and She-Venom lack LEGO styles due to being age restricted, it is currently unclear why the other aforementioned skins don't.
Trivia
- The Marvel Universe is one of only three franchises to have an in-game cosmetic rarity tier, known as the "Marvel Series", solely dedicated to it, the others being the DC Universe and Star Wars. Every single Marvel-related cosmetic is listed under the "Marvel Series" except for ones related to Big Hero 6. This likely due to Big Hero 6's presence in-game being based of the film and not the original comics.
- As a part of Gwenpool's Quests during Chapter 5: Season 4, Gwenpool tasks the player with hacking into Doctor Doom's computer in the Raft. Upon interacting with computer the player is given three choices for the password they should input: CYNTHIA, VALERIA, and SUE. The correct password, CYNTHIA, is directly stated to be reference to Cynthia von Doom. The incorrect passwords are likely references to Valeria Richards (or Valeria von Doom) and Sue Storm.
- If players purchased Marvel Rivals via the Epic Games Store and played 10 matches in the game anytime from December 7th 2024 to January 7th 2025 they'd earn an exclusive glider, the "Rivaled Sailer", in Fortnite.
