In 1793, Jean Desmarais was being prosecuted under the allegations of being counter-revolutionary. Escaping in the Parisian catacombs, he came across a sword that communicated with him and convinced him to swear a blood oath to become its user as a means to destroy his enemies. The curse of the sword was passed on to Jean's descendants, and lasted the passing of time into the present, with its latest user being Jeannine Sauvage.
