The Phoenix is a powerful cosmic entity of death and rebirth. It is closely associated with the mutant psychic Jean Grey, who has been its main host and adopted its name in different moments. After originally bonding with Grey, the Phoenix got corrupted by the Hellfire Club into Dark Phoenix, ultimately sacrificing herself to protect her loved ones. Following Phoenix's demise, Rachel Summers, Jean Grey's daughter from an alternate future wielded its powers. Many other hosts have also communed with the Phoenix. The Avenger martial artist Echo was a prominent host of the Phoenix for a while.
