The Winding Way,[1] or Winding Road,[8] is many things:[9]

A path of stones and gnarled roots led from the Tapestry Islands (home to the Weaver Witches, ruled by Viliven,[9] the Seamstress-Queen of the Tapestry Islands and one of the Lords of the Splinter Realms,[10] as well as allegedly to Enitharmon the Weaver) to Nornheim, the realm of the Norns/Fates.[9]

History

Before a passage could be found through the Winding Way and into the Archipelago, Raggadorr was thought for centuries to be as far as a mortal wizard could travel without sleeping, dying, or being subjected to some sort of mystical transformation.[1][11]

The Tapestry Islands woven throughout the Winding Way were inhabited by the Weaver Witches and their ruler Viliven,[9] Seamstress-Queen of the Tapestry Island and as such one of the Lords of the Splinter Realms,[10] and Enitharmon the Weaver was said to live on of the Tapestry Island as well.[9]

Margali Szardos, also known as "Margali of the Winding Way", self-proclaimed Sorcerer Supreme of the Winding Way.[3]

When Magik called for a convocation of the Lords of the Splinter Realms to unite against the Archenemy, Viliven answered the call.[10]

Power Bestowal

Invokers of the Winding Way used a technique combining ecocentric and exocentric magic to draw power. Usual exocentric magic involved the spell-caster following some prescribed procedure to draw power from principalities, but in this case the Winding Way, a dimension, is the entity. It made up the rules of her powers bestowal on the job. For example, it once made her so powerful that she was able to create a fully functioning replica of Dante's Inferno, then a short time later left her barely able to read signs from tea leaves.[2][9] The power waxed and waned, with the strength of a practionner varying with their position upon the winding path.[3]

Doom Supreme invoked the "bone bending spirits of the Winding Way" to defeat the Starbrand (Vnn).[5]
